Obituary of Ruth Irene Holman

Age 101, of Bethel Park, on January 22, 2025. Beloved wife of the late Robert R. Holman, loving mother of Janet R. Holman, Mark E. (Donna) Holman, Valerie H. (Marcus) Flowers, Christine A. Holman and Michele P. (Wesley) Fish; sister of Leta, Eunice, Bette, Oliver, and Bernard; also 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Ruth attended Graceland Univ, where she received an associate degree in physical education and went on to the University of Washington, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in physical education. She made many friends throughout college that turned into lifelong friendships, including their families over the years. In 1970 she co-founded the Chippewa Ladies Golf League, which is still in existence today. She won many league golfing awards, playing in her last competition at age 86, where she finished first in her flight and teasingly said to her fellow golfers, “she needed to retired while at the top”. She and her husband loved to travel, especially with their children when they were young. Traveling to nearly every state in the U.S. and visiting numerous national parks along the way. Ruth had a great sense of humor. She loved telling jokes, one liners, and puns, always making people laugh. In the days of macrame, she created plant hangers and several rug hooking’s. She enjoyed working outdoors and gardening for as long as she could. For decades she was an avid painter of complex paint-by-numbers until she was in her 90’s. After failing sight and age catching up to her, she resorted to simpler pieces of art. Friends received Sunday, February 2, from 2 - 3:30 PM, at the Warchol Funeral Home, Inc., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville (412-221-3333).
