Artist William “Bill” Shaffer (aka William Szewczyk) grew up in Pittsburgh, studied art at Carnegie Institute of Technology, and then served in the Korean War. Bill was an artist in the Promotion Department of the Los Angeles Times from 1957 until the mid-1990s. He was also a freelance artist and cartoonist throughout his life. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary, son Frank, daughter Catherine, and sister Mary Ann Krajcovic. Interment and military honors to follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
